Gutters first. That is where every job starts for me, and it shapes how I approach everything else on a roofline. I have been doing this work long enough to know that a poorly fitted gutter causes more hidden damage to a property than most homeowners ever realise.

On larger jobs I work with continuous cast-on-site rainwater channels, which give you a seamless run with no joints to fail over time. It is a cleaner finish and far more reliable on longer rooflines. I source materials locally, often through Chadwicks, so lead times are rarely an issue.
Signs your gutters need replacing
Worth knowing before you call anyone out. These are the things I see most often on first visits:
- Visible sagging or gutters pulling away from the fascia
- Persistent damp patches on exterior walls directly below the roofline
- Cracks, splits or rust showing along the gutter run
- Water pouring over the front edge during rainfall rather than flowing to the downpipe
- Paint peeling on fascia boards, which usually means water has been sitting where it should not
Fascia and soffit work goes hand in hand with guttering for me. The gutter fitting system relies on a sound fascia board, so I always check the timber or uPVC condition before any brackets go on.
I cover Lucan and the surrounding areas of West Dublin. Re-aligning an existing gutter to restore proper fall is something I do regularly, it saves a full replacement when the material itself is still sound.
